Paradigm

I used to forget about what I had dreamt but somehow I could recall yesterdays'. It wsn't about winning the lottery (which is haram by the way) nor was it about any favourite movie star or entertainer..It was just about what was the logic for choosing a mixed methodology as a research paradigm. For those of you who are familiar with social and behavioural sciences a paradigm is what Lincoln and Guba (2000) contend a `world view' or a kind of framework that guides a researcher to do the research. This brings to mind those words associated so lovingly with methodology i.e the ontology and epistemology of things.Plus whether we are more inclined to follow the positivist or postpositivist/constructivist views.Personally I can see myself as an interpretive pragmatist and as far as I can remember, I view both quan and qual data essential to most if not all explanation. Just maybe the degree of each paradigm is different within different copntext.

So back to my dream, I recalled someone wearing a white lab coat ( for the life of me I don't know who this person is) asking me `so why do you choose this method? Of course in the dream I was stuck for words...
